Getting to know the tourist organisation at the Lake Klopein and the Voelkermarkt district

Upon invitation of the Alps-Adriatic Centre for Cross-border Co-operation (AACC) on Monday August 11th, 2008 the high ranking delegation, consisting of the three mayors of the Posavje region, Slovenia (Krško, Kostanjevica and Brežice), representatives of the Business centre Krško, Regional development agency and different associations, visited South Carinthia.
After their arrival to St.Kanzian the guests were first sincerely greeted by the AACC representatives Bernard Sadovnik and mag.Filip Warasch. Then the discussion in the community house followed , present were the mayor Thomas Krainz, the assistant for culture Kunibert Sourij, the representative of Slovenian economic list Mihael Lipnik and the community committee member Alojz Lach.
The mayor Krainz presented the guests in short the development of tourism in several of the last ten years, from the high figures in the sixties and seventies with more than one million of overnight stays till today when the number of night stays is stable at around half million. “As the mayor I evaluate the meeting with the Slovenian experts as an important event of exchanging the opinions and experiences. Some years ago I was a guest in the Posavje region, too.”
The former headmaster of the primary school Alojz Lah explained to the guests the bilingual development with the national composition of the community St.Kanzian and the activities of Slovenian associations.
The president of the Tourist Association South Carinthia and the hotel owner mag.Michael Matheidl explained the organisation of tourism in Carinthia, especially on the example of district Voelkermarkt- the Klopein Lake. The Association is being financed by the tourist tax paid by the guests.
The guests took a look at the Cultural hall K3, the Tourist information centre, the Lake Turner, Stein in Jauntal and in the afternoon they made a walk across the promenade to the community swimming area, where all were impressed by the wonderful summer holiday atmosphere of the Klopein Lake.
Late in the afternoon the guests also visited the community Globasnitz, where they were welcomed by the mayor Paul Robnik and the representative of the Unity list (Enotna lista) and vice-mayor Hubert Kordež. Together they made a presentation of the community and the their biggest event “Farant”, which will be held on Friday, August 15th. Mr.Kordež explained in details the organisation and the activities of the Farmers association that is preparing together with the community this popular event, which attracts more than 10.000 visitors from the whole Carinthia, neighbouring Slovenia and from Italy.
The visit of the wonderful Elbes castle, the village and the delicious meal – in the house of the Village association – rounded this interesting study visit.
