| "How to survive with tourism"
An open conference was held under this slogan
on January 11th, 2012 in Goriška Brda (Slovenia).
The conference was organised by The Institute
for Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Community
Brda, led by mag.Ariana B.Suhadolnik.
Interesting and very well prepared lectures were
going on in more directions. The director of the
Directorate for Tourism of the Slovenian economy
Ministry mag.Marjan Hribar was talking about the
role of the government and its institutions at
the development of tourism. He especially explained
the preparation of the strategy for the development
of tourism in the period from the year 2012 to
2016 and concluded that Slovenian tourism is moving
towards perfect, active , safe and green destination.
In the direction aOpportunities for the development
of tourism in the region, the advantages of connecting
destinations´ among others the Mayor of Brda Franc
Mužič and the Mayor of Nova Gorica Matej Arčon
were discussing . The stressed the necessity to
overpass the small community and country borders.
They stated it is very important to be aware of
the final destination, of the region we want to
promote and finally it is essential to connect
all elements into a mutual and unique appearance-
on the domestic and as well on the foreign market.
The most interesting discussion was held by the
honorary guest of the evening dr.Christoph Engl,
the Marketing Director of Sudtirol. Namely this
region has a brand name which includes the landscape,
its products and the offers of various services.
The President of the AACC Bernard Sadovnik and
the Secretary-General Filip Warasch were also
present at the conference. |

Cultivate and continue cooperation -
The Mayor of the community Nova Gorica Matej
Arčon while visiting Klagenfurt
The towns Nova Gorica and
Klagenfurt are partner communities for
more than 40 years. Have you been in Klagenfurt
before?
Arčon: It is my first official visit as
a Mayor. We met the town officials and
had a short sightseeing of the town. Klagenfurt
is very nice and we are eager to cooperate.
However I was here with my family last
year for the first time, we saw the Christmas
market, had a town walk and visited the
lake of Velden.
It seems you want to strengthen
the cooperation between the partner towns
which is lasting over 40 years. Is this
true?
Arčon: When people meet and have contacts,
new ideas and definite conclusions are
created. Mid of November we met with the
Mayor of Klagenfurt Christian Scheider
in Nova Gorica, last Saturday we »returned«
the visit. We agreed to organise a mutual
service in 3 languages in the beginning
of December . We should cultivate and
continue cooperation on the level of Mayors.
We want cooperation on the fields of culture,
sport and economy. We have positive cooperation
with the Mayors of the former community
Nova Gorica, we strengthened the cooperation
with neighbour town Gorizia, now we want
to upgrade the cooperation with Klagenfurt.
I am convinced that a wonderful triangle
of cooperation could be formed.

Communal Forum 2011
New incentives for cross border cooperation
This year the main thema
of the second communal Forum , which was
held on November 16th, 2011 in Velden,
was athe financing of the local community,
innovations and coopeartions´. It was
visited by eminent representatives of
Carinthia and- of course- the representatives
of the communities for who the Forum was
meant. The European Commissioner Joahnnes
Hahn was the main speaker at this Forum.
He reported about his work and the perspectives
in the new initiative period 2014-2020.
About 35 millions of European inhabitants
are living in less or poorly developed
areas. In the future the less developed
regions will receive 70% of the promotion
funds. (In Slovenia the Eastern part of
the country could apply for these funds)
Just an interesting information: in the
past years Carinthia received 67 millions
EUR for cross border cooperation.
The Forum was visited also by some Slovenian
and Italian community representatives.
It is a pity that the coordination in
preparing the Forum was not too good,
what was a reason for a smaller number
of participants and therefore smaller
meaning of the Forum.
The Alps-Adriatic Centre took part at
both Forums, since it tried to increase
the number of Slovenian visitors, however
one of the most important roles of the
Centre is connecting Carinthian communities
with Slovenian ones and this will be continued
in the future, too, regardless of the
Forum.

| Municipality Brda is extending
cooperation
The cheese festival in Kotschach-Mauthen
(Carinthia, September 24th and 25th, 2011 ) was
a good opportunity for the municipality Brda to
propagate cross border cooperation. The numerous
delegation (music group, dancers, women from Brda
in their traditional dresses ), led by the Mayor
Franc Muzic, who used the opportunity for the
meeting with the host- Mayor Walter Hartlieb.
Among the exhibitors- present were more than one
hundred- was also the Wine Cellar from Brda, since
it is well known that wine and cheese supplement
each other extremely well.

| Slovenia and Carinthia for complete
construction of Karavanke tunnel
At the meeting, held on Tuesday,
September 27th, 2011, the Slovenian Minister of
transport Patrik Vlačič and the Carinthian country
Governor Gerhard Dorfler agreed to propose- due
to the safety reasons- the complete construction
of the second tube of the Karavanke road tunnel.
For them the building of the safety tube is not
acceptable and would be a wrong investment.
At this meeting in Kranjska Gora they discussed
also other important issues- the construction
of the third road axis Celje, Dravograd and Bleiburg
and the express bus connection between Klagenfurt
and Ljubljana.
Both delegations see a big potential in the mutual
marketing of the cross border trip connections.
Here a joint European project is possible, considering
the road connections over Predil, Vršič and Paulitsch
mountain pass. .
The President of the AACC Bernard Sadovnik was
accompanying the Carinthian delegation. |
