The economic crisis is
a challenge, too
All forecasts show we will face a significant
economic crisis in this year- maybe even a recession.
All the governments are taking steps and Keynes-
the famous English professor of economics from
the period between the two world wars - who
was a supporter of active economic interventions
policy of the countries “Deficit spending” -
is becoming more and more popular. His philosophy
is being followed in Europe and in the USA.
The measures for the stabilisation of the banks
are in full course , in addition other measures
(for instance public investments) which should
support the economic growth are implemented,
too.
In Carinthia - among the Carinthian Slovenes
- two economic associations are active: SGZ
and AACC. The former recently celebrated its
20th anniversary and issued a book with the
description of its multilateral and extensive
work at this occasion. Commercial counsellor
Franc Rutar and Karl Smolle were honoured for
special merits.
The latter, AACC, has a shorter period of existence
, nevertheless it is significantly active. Its
activity may be divided into the following segments:
1. The contract with the government of Carinthia
- discussions with the members of the government
(intermediating of discussion partners in Slovenia)
- cross border projects on the medical field
(counsellor Kaiser)
- organisation of the visit of counsellor Martinz
at the Slovenian minister for Regional development
- the idea of the mutual organisation of the
World skiing Championship (Tarvisio, Kranjska
gora and Bad Kleinkirchheim) is of special interest
2. Cross border cooperation
- 16 Slovenian communities are the members of
AACC, they are looking for partners and know-how
on the Austrian side. AACC is taking care of
these contacts and relations according to the
logic of “best practices”.
- in the meantime the activity has expanded
to Croatia (the important and big community
Mali Lošinj is a member of AACC, other communities
are to follow)
- furthermore AACC established contacts with
Cantons in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Posavina
is a member already, Sarajevo is close to membership)
and the Serbian republic.
3. More than 50 companies (Austrian and Slovenian)
are AACC members. Two Austrian investments in
Slovenia have already grown - with forming of
two companies and the Porr project in Goriška
brda. Also ORF is a member, therefore its former
general manager received a special AACC award.
Individual persons are members, too.
4. AACC was a partner of the last year s Medical
and economic forum in Velden, mainly it took
patronage for the delegation from Bosnia and
Herzegovina, the next forum in 2009 should include
also the conference of the regional communities
in its programme.
From the above text we can conclude that AACC
is developing quite an important and multilateral
activity. I wish both of them - SGZ and AACC
- in the year 2009 (the year which will not
be simple from the point of the economic view)
a lot of success.
